We are announcing our plans for our
annual Montana summer training trip!

JUNE 2008

Dear Friends,

We're once again fortunate to have secured grounds outside of Choteau, Montana for our summer training program.

Choteau is in Teton County and sits about 15 miles from the eastern front of the Rockies and the scenery is spectacular where we work on a daily basis. The elevation here is about 4,500 ft. and the mornings are generally cool and conducive to training. Quite often during late August and early September its necessary to wear a jacket all day while training.

We usually train on a variety of wild birds -- pheasants, sharp tail grouse, and huns are usually quite plentiful. Streams and irrigation ditches are not only good for the birds but also allow the dogs an opportunity to cool down while working... which then allows us the opportunity to train throughout the day. Each year visiting clients are impressed with the beauty of the country and the excitement of training dogs on wild birds.

Every year we've been fortunate to be able to secure more ground on which to train, and this year will be no exception as we've acquired an additional 4,000 acres on which to train dogs! We appreciate that we've been welcomed by the people of Choteau, and continue to make many new friends.

Choteau is 1 hr. and 15 min. N.W. of Great Falls. Great Falls has a full service airport with numerous daily flights and in Great Falls you'll find motels, a grocery store, restaurants, a hospital, and veterinarian. One of the great things about our training grounds area is that its remote, however its only ten or twelve miles out of Choteau.

Please understand that this is a passion for us, and our Montana trip is one of our favorite times! Your dog will receive more benefit per training dollar than at any other time of the year. All of our clients are always welcome to visit camp to work with us and to watch their dogs in training. However, if you're making plans to visit, the best time to come would be at the end of August or beginning of September.

This year we will have our son, Jimmy, along assisting and scouting. Keegan Farley will also accompany us to help with kennel duties and the dog wagon.

Dogs will be picked up at Fred Leggetts' Cloverdale Farm in Danville, VA the weekend of July 12th and we'll be happy to meet with you to pick up your dog anywhere along the way. Our current plan is to depart from Virginia for Montana shortly after that time and we'd love to have your dog on board. There are few places that equal Teton County for developing dogs and we hope that you'll plan to send your dog with us. Let us hear from you SOON if you want to be sure that your dog gets to participate in this incredible training experience.

See you in Montana!

Sincerely,

Jim and Theresa Heckert

TRAINING

Whether you're a bird hunter, pointing breed field trial competitor, or a person who owns a bird dog as a companion and wants to have a dog that can do what it was bred to do - we offer training tailored to your dog's individual needs.

Take a few minutes and look at some of the great dogs we had the pleasure to train and handle in recent years - from Brittanies to Weimaraners, and many pointing breeds inbetween - there's nothing like the sight of a bird dog standing rock-solid and intense on wild birds...

With the Rockies as a backdrop and the beauty of the surrounding landscape in "big sky country"...
it truly takes your breath away

TRIALS

At Jim Heckert Kennels we travel thousands of miles every year in order to run our client dogs in quality pointing breed field trials -- from the east to the west, and from north to south

We actively compete in AKC and American Field trials across the country - supporting local pointing breed clubs, as well as National and Championship events.

Our congratulations go out to our clients' dogs that have won and/or placed at 2007 trials. Several have done an exceptional job in Championship trials this year -- see some of their photos... CLICK HERE

Liver and white Pointer pupsBREEDING

We're proud to have trained and handled the 2006 AKC National Gun Dog Champion, "Covey Up Johnny," a male Liver/White English Pointer owned by Ray Knight of Albany, Ga. Johnny outperformed 55 dogs down in Sutherlin, VA to win that prestigeous event. "John" also went on to take Top Pointer at the 2007 AKC Pointing Breed Gun Dog Championship in Nebraska!

We know that winning at trials is only one aspect of proving the merit of a breeding program, the other side of that coin is passing those excellent winning ways on to future generations. Several of John's puppies are already competing in broke stakes -- and are winning in AKC gun dog stakes!

When you're looking for an excellent hunting dog, or a future contender for top field trial awards in American Field or AKC events, check out some of our past litters...

WE HAVE YOUNG FIELD TRIAL and HUNTING DOG PROSPECTS AVAILABLE NOW.

If you're a bird dog enthusiast and want to get in touch - whether it's about training, handling, pups, trials, or other related areas where we could be of assistance - feel free to give us a call, e-mail, or drop us a line the 'old fashioned way.'

We look forward to hearing from you!
